Summary
Downes was born in Melbourne and many of her works were published here. Her literary output includes children's books and poetry as well as two novels: Swayed by the Storm: A Story of Australia Today (1911) and Flower o' the Bush (1914), both 'feminine romances' of bush life which were positively reviewed at the time as being unusually sensitive and well drawn examples of a familiar genre.
