Summary
Castilla was born Ethelrita Ramos de Castilla in Kyneton, Victoria, and lived much of her life in Melbourne. She was a contributor to the Australasian and the Sydney Mail, and also wrote art criticism for the Daily Telegraph under the name of 'Viva.' She is best remembered for her poem, 'The Australian Girl,' which appeared in her collection, The Australian Girl, and Other Verses, first published by George Robertson in 1900 and later reissued by London's Elkin Mathews in 1914.
